Ritta Hoppner
March 2, 2009

Let me tell you now about Ritta Hoppner, the hotel in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul where we stayed during our visit there.
As you read on, don’t think about a five star hotel, huge building in a metropolis, and hundreds of hotel attendants passing through the corridors. Instead, think about a huge two-storey German-style house set on a rolling hill, nestled among pine trees, right in the middle of a quiet neighborhood.
I fell in love with the place instantly. The staff attended to all our needs like old friends would. They are the most child-friendly staff I have ever met – from the cardapinho (kiddie menu) to their way of arranging my little girl’s toys on her bed whenever they had to fix our room – everything they did made my little girl feel that the hotel was probalby built for kids! I had suspected that from the beginning and with the Mini Mundo nearby, I had no reason to doubt.
Mini Mundo, which is owned by the hotel, brings a totally different package of fun and excitement not only for children but for adults as well. For me, it speaks clearly of a father’s passion and love for his children. Que amor!
The food, prepared from a small, fine kitchen was fantastic! My favorite picks in the main dishes are the grilled salmon and shrimp risotto and for the tea or cha da tarde, nothing beats the apple strudel! You can have it hot or cold. Yum!
The cha da tarde offers other delicious treats like the strawberry tart, mini-sandwiches, and pao de queijo. Again, there’s nothing in the cha da tarde a little girl wouldn’t love! How could she resist that tiny white cup filled with cold chocolate drink? With everything coming in very tiny pieces, my daughter thought the cha da tarde was created for girls like her!
Very early in the morning, she gets a personalized newsletter from the hotel staff telling her about the day’s menu and promos, if any. The weather forecast was something I didn’t expect but it was very useful.
Right in front of the hotel’s lobby is a small old house that used to be the residence of the family who built the hotel. It now serves as playhouse for kids. It was well-preserved and it still has some of its original amenities.
Go visit Ritta Hoppner if you’re looking for a good vacation spot in Gramado. If you have kids, you’ll love it even more!
